On the Rocks: Washington Apple Martini

TGIF! Kelly and I have been hard at work putting together some fabulous details for my upcoming wedding (only two weeks away!) and it’s about time for a cocktail. I’m not a huge fan of SHOTS but I do love a good ol’ Washington Apple shooter, so I figured….why not make it into a martini?!

I stuck with a traditional Washington Apple recipe since I didn’t feel there was anything else needed. It turned out to be even more delicious as a yummy “sipper” rather than taking back a shot in one big gulp. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 shots Crown Royal Whiskey

1/2 shot Apple Puckers

Heavy Splash of cranberry juice

*Shake with ice and serve up!

On the Rocks: Guava Sangria with a Touch of Sage

Happy 2013 Santa Barbara Chic readers! It’s great to kick off a New Year with one of my favorite concoctions — sangria! As I’ve said before, it’s a bit difficult to give an exact recipe because every sangria is different, and you should taste as you go adding more or less of your favorite ingredients. This winter-inspired guava sangria with a hint of sage is sure to impress. Enjoy!

Isn’t it so pretty?! I love the vibrant colors of the cranberries and sage together… And the fresh guavas (from Kelly’s humongous guava tree in her front yard) add such a lovely tropical flavor.

Ingredients:
1 bottle of rose wine
1/2 cup cognac
1/2 cup pureed guava or any other type of tropical fruit
1/2 cup pear juice
1/2 cup cranberry juice
1 cup sprite
Thinly sliced orange spheres
Boiled and strained cranberries
Fresh sage
*Add all ingredients in a pitcher, tasting as you go. Set fresh sage aside and serve as a garnish for each glass to achieve a hint of sage flavor in your sangria– sage can be quite potent (do not add it in the pitcher). Serve on the rocks.

On the Rocks: Cranberry Mojito

TGIF! The beau and I have been decking out our home with Christmas decor and it’s making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. To keep with the same theme, this cranberry mojito is not only beautiful…it is darn delicious and is sure to fill you with the holiday spirit. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 shot of Bacardi Rum

- Pinch of raw sugar

- Lime wedge

- Spoonfull of boiled and strained fresh cranberries

- 7-10 fresh mint leaves

- Soda

- Splash of cranberry juice

- Splash of sprite

*Muddle mint, lime wedge (extract oils from rind), boiled cranberries, and sugar in a flat-surfaced glass. Add ice, rum, splashes of sprite and cranberry juice, and fill with soda. Shake well and serve on the rocks with a raw sugar rim.

On the Rocks: Raspberry Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitans are the pinnacle of girly cocktails. While Sex in the City made them famous, I’m always looking for new and inventive ways to put a spin on this popular martini. While this recipe isn’t much different than a classic cosmo, the tartness from the fresh raspberries adds a delightful freshness to this lady-libation. Enjoy!

Squeeze a lime wedge into a glass and add the rind. Add 4-6 fresh raspberries and muddle in a glass with the lime wedge (make sure to extract oils from the lime rind). Add 1 ½ shots of citrus vodka, ½ a shot of Triple Sec, and a small splash of cranberry juice. Give a good shake with ice, strain and garnish with another lime wedge.

Ingredients:

1 ½ shots of citrus vodka

½ shot of Triple Sec

4-6 fresh strawberries

2 lime wedges

Small splash of cranberry juice
