Escape to… A Fruit Stand in England

Kelly
March 28

I love visitng local markets when I travel, taking in the local flavor of a place, and this fruit stand in England is exactly where I want to be right now.

The wildflowers, local fruit, the rustic old table, and even the distressed cash box equals styling perfection for me.

And here is the lady who owns the fruit stand. What a simple and beautiful way to make a living.

Color Palatte: Blue & Yellow

I love this fresh summertime color scheme- shades of ocean blue with pops of yellow and white. The combination feels slightly preppy, I could see a striped white and blue runner with yellow flowers. Would you consider this summer fresh color combo?

Home Style: On a Boat

Kelly
March 15

I’ve been obsessed with boat houses every since I stayed in Cambridge. They line parts of the river cam and it seems like such a romantic way to live. This particular one, is owned by the stylist Emma Freemantle and its kind of bananas.

I love the irreverent mix of strips, florals, ethnic fabrics, all against the beautiful teak interior…

A pot bellied stove in a boat house? Too awesome.

I love the deep rich red used in the bathroom. And that distressed mirror? Perfection.

Inspiration Board #59: Watery Blues

Kelly
March 12

For this look board, I was inspired by embroidered linens, fine silver, and that particular shade of watery blue. Fine china, cut crystal, old perfume bottles, and simple floral arrangements of garden roses, would make for an elegant and timeless look.

Home Style: Versailles

Continuing my wanderlust for France is a virtual tour of Versailles… Um, how amazing is the pattern of the stone? I love the geometry in contrast to the ornate facade.

I die for this chair and this bed. This is perhaps the most perfect french canopy ever.

Even the stairs are so pretty I could hang out on one of these landings any day. And the stables? The stone vault and beautiful wood details, make me very jealous of the horses who call this home. These photos are from the book Versaille: A Private Invitations, which will be coming home with me soon, I’m sure!

Inspiration Board #58 : Bands of Color

Kelly
March 05

I love a good colorful wedding (or interior) and this board screams fun with its slightly kitschy vibe. It would be fun to do striped, colorful napkins, mixed with a polka dot linen. Flowers could be color gradated down the table for in ROYGIBV fashion… Would you consider this bold design inspiration?

More Prettiness from the Rue Editorial

Kelly
March 01

Calling any of Jose Villa’s photos outtakes seems sort of ridiculous, but here they are, more goodies from the Rue shoot. Above, Santa Barbara at sunset…

For the first setup of the day, I had a few adriondecks brought in from Found, pillows from Yeah Rentals and I brought a funky wicker side table and put my big brass swan filled with wax flowers on top of it.

For flowers, I wanted it to be very loose and very spring… I used lilac, tulips, ranunculus and jasmine vine. The basket was a thrift store find (love the aqua and blue pattern) and the main table’s container was from Anthropologie. Plates, flatware and glassware available for rental for the amazing Casa de Perrin.

After shooting the table and one look on the docks, we moved to the boat…

This dress didn’t make it into the magazine, but I’m obsessed with it! Its Rachel Zoe and the dress moves so pretty in the wind… I accessorized with a few chunky gold necklaces and a gold hammered cuff. Big thank you again to all who helped contribute!

Rue: Behind the Scenes

February 29

I was so honored to do the Spring Harbor editoiral for Rue and to get the cover no less! The editorial came about when I saw Anne at the Design Sponge book signing in LA. Jose Villa and I had already been talking about a lifestyle shoot for a while and this seemed like the perfect venue for it. (Above aidrondeck from Found, the view of the pier, and the “crew” from left: myself, Cynthia Beard of Life Styled, Anne Sage of Rue & City Sage, Diana of Casa de Perrin, Rebecca Buenik, Jessica Nicole, and Jeni of Found Vintage Rentals).

I’ve sailed the Santa Barbara Harbor a few times before, so I knew the view of the shore would make the perfect backdrop for my little “Santa Barbara Chic” inspired editorial. So I went and found the prettiest sailboat I could…

There were sea lions, a whole pod of dolphins and of course these folks you might recognize… Jose Villa in action and Anne Sage enjoying the boat ride.

Thank you so much to Rue for the opportunity, Jose Villa for the stunning photos (and willingness to jump from one boat to another to get the overall boat shot– no I’m not kidding), Joel Serrato for his searingly beautiful film, Samantha from Could I have that & Dressed/Ready for letting me borrow all the pretty clothes (and helping me wardrobe style as well), Cat & Amy of Tresor Vintage at 33 Jewels for the pretty baubles, the amazing rentals courtesy of Found, Casa de Perrin and Yeah Rentals, Beta Unit for the hip male wardrobe, Duo Events for the beautiful food, Leslie Lewis Sigler for the hand painted oar menu, Noelle of Chateau Belle for the beautiful hair & makeup, our two models, Brandon & Rachel for rolling with the swells and the Santa Barbara Sailing Center for their pretty boat, Jenny Lane.

Bridal Style: Pride & Prejudice Inspired

Kelly
February 28

I love, love this pensive picture of my sweet bride Elizabeth, in her gorgeous Claire Pettibone gown, looking at the sea from Rancho Dos Pueblos.

The intricate beading, empire waist, and the delicate cap sleeves made Elizabeth feel like she’d just stepped out of the pages of Pride & Prejudice…

For a splash of color, and her something blue, Elizabeth picked these blue shoes by Poetic License. Her bracelet was her something borrowed and her earring were her something new (vintage baubles from 33 Jewels). To see the rest of Elizabeth’s wedding check out the Style Me Pretty magazine!
